Chester

Today is Saturday

We headed into Shrewsbury for a quick look around. There are some lovely buildings here. As it was Saturday we had a quick look around the market. It reminded us of how markets used to be at home before the health and safety police had to protect us. There was meat, bread, pastries, pork pies. It was fabulous.

After that we headed to Iron Bridge.
The Iron Bridge crosses the river Severn and was constructed in 1779. It is considered to be the birthplace of the industrial revolution and, you could say, global warming.
It's a great bridge and a lovely gorge, it was one of the first cast iron bridges built and one of the few surviving.

Then we headed off to Chester. First off we stopped for a late lunch and by chance we chose an old Tudor building and supposedly one of the earliest surviving buildings in the town. The date on the facade read 1505, but it is probably incorrect and was originally 1605. Still, that's old.

We had a quick look around the town, famous for it's two story shopping streets. So many shops so little time.
It was race day in Chester, so there were a lot of people. We didn't have long as we needed to be in Leeds by tonight.

    Where's Tammy?

We left Chester and headed for Leeds via the Peaks district. It was wonderful scenery.

We arrived in Leeds very late for tea, we are staying at Mark, Michelle and Matilda's house for night. Michelle cooked us a lovely shepherds pie, with real shepherds in it and a cheesecake. Mark and I went to visit a couple of pubs, well three, for a couple of pints.

It was also great to sleep in a bed where you didn't bump your head on the ceiling when you sat up.
